California Whiskey
ReBru Spirits, a Barrio Logan distillery that uses unsold craft beer from local breweries and repurposes it into award-winning liquor, has released its latest creation California Whiskey.
The 46.5% alcohol by volume (93 proof) beverage is a blend of three-year-aged Bourbon and in-house aged whiskey distilled from unsold local craft beer. It has a nutty and burnt caramel aroma with a smooth taste of bananas and crème brûlée, finishing sweet like corn and vanilla.
ReBru’s restaurant, bar, and speakeasy – all at 1735 National Avenue – are serving California Whiskey in its Sazerac cocktail, as well as in other hand-crafted drinks. The whiskey is available for take-home in 750ml bottles for $63 as well.
“I couldn’t be prouder of our distilling team for creating what may be our best spirit to date,” said ReBru founder Dennis O’Connor. “I am so happy to partner with local breweries to make this sustainable spirit for everyone to enjoy. We believe our whiskey will whisk you off your feet – in a metaphoric way, of course.”
ReBru is holding a Roaring 1920s-themed release party for California Whiskey on Friday, December 9 at its restaurant, bar, and speakeasy. The event starts at 7:00 p.m. and is free attend, though there is a VIP experience that starts at 6:00 p.m. and includes a hosted bar and light bites. VIP tickets are $10 and can be purchased here. The party includes drink specials, innovative cocktails, and live entertainment.
Tours of ReBru have been introduced as well and can be reserved here. Tickets are $20 and include a tutorial of the distilling process in the actual distillery, tastings of three spirits, and time in the barrel room, speakeasy, and event space that has a west-facing view of downtown San Diego.
In 2021, ReBru won Gold and Silver Medals at San Diego Spirits Festival, as well as Silver and Bronze Medals at New York International Spirits Competition.
