National Bloody Mary Day


Celebrate with one too many beverages on New Year’s Eve, and feeling a little hungover? Lucky for San Diego, January 1st is National Bloody Mary Day and plenty of hot spots are ready to provide the perfect hangover cure.

Where better to start the new year than on the beach? Sandbar Sports Grill has ocean views from their Sky Deck, and everything you need to start 2023 the right way. Their Big Ass Bloody Mary boasts a 22oz. Hangover cure/day starter with your choice of vodka or tequila, house-blend Bloody Mary mix, and clamato. They beach bar will be open at 9 a.m. to help you get your day started!

Duck Dive, in PB, is known for their ode to surf culture. They strive to bring guests elevated fare in a casual atmosphere. An ideal spot to sit back and sip on your first Bloody Mary of the year, the Duck Dive offers several options! Go for the Dive Bloody and enjoy Absolut, green tabasco, fresh squeezed lemon juice, cutwater Bloody Mary mix, bacon, celery, and bleu cheese stuffed olives. Or sip on their Bloody Maria with Olmeca-Altos Reposado, mezcal, Worcestershire, lemon, Cholula, and Cutwater Bloody Mary mix, in a tajin-rimmed glass! Grab a drink from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Known for their fresh seafood ingredients, Point Loma Fish Shop also makes a mean Bloody Mary! Try their Fish Shop Bloody Mary with vodka, signature Bloody Mary mix, served over ice with a fish shop seasoning rim and garnished with their famous fish shop shrimp, and fresh lemon and lime, or go for the Fish Shop Bloody Maria – identical to their Bloody Mary but with tequila instead! They’ll be open from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Serving locals and tourists delicious grub for over ten years now, barleymash’s brunch menu offers booze, bubbles, and most importantly—bloodies. Grab a House Bloody Mary and savor Skyy vodka, house Bloody Mary mix, and a salt rim. Hangover begone, you can venture in to the Gaslamp spot as early as 10 a.m. Be sure to pair with a barleyhash, or other decadent brunch dish!

Serving brunch to Mission Hills daily from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Farmer’s Bottega has a few different variations to start your morning right! Offering both Bloody Mary’s and Bloody Maria’s, guests can enjoy their morning libation with either The Original, Bacon Bloody, or Spicy Shrimp. Pair with one of their farm-to-table dishes with fresh, hearty ingredients and you have the perfect first morning of the new year!

New to downtown, Cali Breakfast opened in November, at the foot of the El Cortez Hotel on the corner of 7th and Ash! Already known for their Bloody Mary Bar, you can start your New Year’s Day with a Bloody Mary customized just for you. Grab a Meat Lovers Bloody Mary and enjoy Bloody Mary mix, lime, rice vodka, steak skewers, bacon, and sausage! For any vegetarians, their Vegetarian Bloody Mary combines Bloody Mary mix, lime, rice vodka, portobello mushroom, celery, and lettuce. Name a better hangover cure! Barrio Star is known for bringing San Diego modern Mexican Soul Food, woven with bold Latin flavors and clever Asian touches. From their Cocteles menu, raise a toast to National Bloody Mary Day with Barrio Star’s House-made Tito’s Bloody Mary! The beloved Banker’s Hill restaurant will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on New Year’s Day.
