National Pet Day

April 11th is National Pet Day, a holiday that honors the important role pets play in our lives. But how do you show your four-legged family member how much you care? Arrange them a tail-wagging good time by taking them out to lunch. We've rounded up some of our favorite dog-friendly locations throughout San Diego, so you and your furry friend can enjoy an outing or a quick bite to eat.

Kick off your pet-filled adventures at Park 101, a multi-level complex in Carlsbad. Your pooch is welcome in their expansive Garden Pub, serving up lip-smacking barbecue and 32 local tap beers. The spacious outdoor seating area and grass area allow your dog to run free while you enjoy crispy Smoked Chicken Wings with hot lemon pepper wet sauce. And don't forget to treat your friend to a delicious patty specially made for furry customers.

Looking for something a little more upbeat? Take your pup over to Mavericks Beach Club, one of San Diego's favorite bars. Celebrate California to the fullest at their dog-friendly patio with tons of outdoor space, live music, drinks, and Baja-inspired food. Go for their Poke Tacos with Ahi Tuna, wakame seaweed salad, wonton shell, wasabi aioli, ponzu, and micro greens, and spoil your fido with mutt menu yummies, toys, and treats.

If you're a fan of seafood, grab your furry friend and head over to the Fish Shop. Located in Encinitas, Pacific Beach, and Point Loma, this restaurant is known for its fresh and sustainably sourced seafood, house-made marinades, and signature fish dishes. Enjoy a tasty plate of grilled Shrimp N' Chips served with fries, cocktail sauce, tartar sauce, and lemon on their comfortable pet-friendly patio. And your companion will be offered a bowl of fresh water and tasty dog biscuits.

After a walk in Balboa Park, lounge away with an al fresco meal at Barrio Star. Located in Bankers Hill, this place offers modern Mexican soul food along with award-winning margaritas and live music. The dog-friendly outdoor patio has plenty of space for people and furries to enjoy bold Latin flavors and soak up the sun. Try their Barrio Fries topped with perfectly marinated steak, crema, Monterey jack cheese, guacamole, pico de gallo, and cojita cheese, and reward your doggie with its favorite bites.

This brewpub delivers a fresh, pet-friendly experience on its front patio with award-winning sips and bites. Select from "pitcher-perfect" house beers, including 24 tap options, and wash it down with Grilled Chicken Breast Sandwich made with grilled chicken, labneh, tomato, romaine lettuce, cucumber, za'atar seasoning, lemon dressing on an Amish bun served with house-cut fries.

Here in San Diego, we're lucky to be surrounded by dog-friendly dining spots. So grab your furry friend and celebrate National Pet Day with a special meal out at one of these restaurants. Woof woof!
