Everyone’s favorite food holiday, National Taco Day, is Wednesday, Oct. 4th and we’ve got plenty of tasty local spots to chow down with discounts, specialty tacos, and more!

Gaslamp’s The Smoking Gun will be extending their weekly Taco Tuesday celebration into Wednesday, October 4th, which happens to be National Taco Day! In addition to their normal specials, which include Street Tacos (3) for $11 or (1) for $4, with your choice of smoked pork shoulder, lemon pepper chicken, smoked wagyu brisket or veggie (onions, peppers, mushroom, and zucchini), taco-lovers can also chow down on a specialty Surf and Turf Taco, made with shrimp, shaved sirloin, salsa fresca, and chipotle aioli, all on a corn tortilla. On National Taco Day, Mexican beers will be just $5 and house margaritas will be $7 with the purchase of three tacos from the menu.

Barrio Star, found in the Banker’s Hill neighborhood, will be offering regular Happy Hour, from 3PM – 5PM, which includes $5 Tacos a la Carte. Guests can also indulge in any of the tasty taco plates found on their menu, from spicy chicken to potato tacos, salmon to shrimp with a delicious Thai slaw. Or you can opt for the Mixed Taco Plate, where you can choose any three of your favorite tacos or try one you’ve not yet tasted before. Mixed taco plate excludes the Birria Tacos.

Sandbar Sports Bar & Grill, in the heart of Mission Beach, boasts an award-winning grilled TKO Style Taco, where you can select your preferred local white fish, served on a cotija-crusted flour tortilla. This delectable creation is complemented by chipotle aioli, escabeche slaw, lime crema, spicy guacamole, crispy onion strings, and fried cilantro. You won't be disappointed - this taco is to die for and is truly a tasty way to celebrate National Taco Day. Sandbar also serves specialty Quesa-Birria Taco, Juan’s Street Taco, and Fried Avo Taco!

Celebrate National Taco Day with Tacos and Trivia night at Mavericks Beach Club, in PB. From 4PM - 10PM, enjoy $2.50 Street Tacos, along with $4 Fireball, Jiant Hard Tea, and Alpine Beer, and FREE TRIVIA starting at 7pm! There will be big prizes, sponsored by Tito's, for the top 3 Trivia Winners of the night, so brush up on those trivia skills and come to play and enjoy tasty tacos!

Alejandra’s Fine Mexican Food and Cantina in Carlsbad is offering a $15 Taco Trio on National Taco Day. The special includes the Cielo (blackened chicken with cabbage, corn, avocado sauce, pickled red onion, micro cilantro), Mar (shrimp enchilado with slaw, cilantro, habanero aioli), and Tierra (carne asada with frijoles, guacamole, grilled onion, pico de nopal). The Taco Trio, which is served with a side of house made potato chips “Papitas co Valentina", salsa verde, and a lime wedge, comes from Executive Chef Amy DiBiase and Chef de Cuisine Abner Peralta.

Tacaliente Mexican Grill in Hillcrest will offer $1.79 Fish Tacos and $5.00 Carnitas Tacos from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on National Taco Day. There are 10 other tacos on the menu as well, including vegetarian options.

PB’s Duck Dive invites taco enthusiasts from near and far to celebrate October 4th with their tasty Street Cart Tacos. Each different option comes with three tacos, and choices include Beer-Battered Mahi, Citrus Carne Asada, Adobo Chicken, Beer-Battered Shrimp, and Blackened Mahi, all topped with jalapeƱo crema.

National Taco Day wouldn’t be complete without a visit to City Tacos. Nearly every taco on the menu is less than $5.00 and there’s a taco for everyone – pollo asado, carnitas, mahi-mahi, shrimp, scallop, portobello, and zucchini. City Tacos just opened its seventh San Diego location in Ocean Beach, a 10,000-square-foot space known as OB Playground with games, a dog park, flower shop, and coffee shop.

North Park’s The Original 40 Brewing Company, which was voted as one of San Diego’s Best Micro Brew Pubs in The San Diego Union-Tribune’s 2023 Readers Poll, offers Short Rib Street Tacos on its menu. The three-taco spread comes with poblano crema, serrano peppers, cotija cheese, and sauteed onions.

Karl Strauss Brewing Company has four San Diego County brewpub locations in 4S Ranch, Carlsbad, Downtown, and Sorrento Mesa, and the menu features Grilled Chicken Tacos (corn-piquillo relish, pickled onions, shredded cabbage, guajillo salsa, cheddar, chili ranch) and Blackened Mahi Tacos (Guajillo salsa, shredded cabbage, cheddar, cotija, chipotle sour cream, pico de gallo, cilantro). The tacos are presented by Executive Chef Gunther Emathinger, who has been with the brewery for the last 26 years.
